Bruxelles: Galerie Les Contemporains, 1966 (12), 21,3×9,7 cm [folded]. Threefold. Exhibition invitation card for an Emile Christiaens’ solo exhibition. Christiaens, a close friend of Marcel Broodthaers, was a self-taught artist and Broodthaers collector. Most notably he exhibited with his friend MB in 1966 at the Galerie Saint-Laurent. On the cover of the card a motto by MB is reproduced in silver “Je fais carrière dans le marbre, j’ai de la veine / Marcel Broodthaers”. The quote, placed in context, plays on the “fixation” of Christiaens in using faux-marble backgrounds in his works. The threefold opens to reveal a tipped in illustration alluding to the long Belgian surrealist tradition. Extremely scarce.
